My Dad

On Wednesday night, my dad suffered a heart attack and a stroke. He has been in and out of the hospital for at least 2 months battling different things. It is frustrating; it seems as though the doctors can't get their information together. The doctors don't know if he will make it. He is in a coma; the doctors have been trying to wake him, but they do not think that there isn't any brain activity. I got a chance to talk to him; I told him how much I appreciate everything that he has done for me in my life and that I love him. I don't know if he heard me, but it's comforting to know that I got to tell him that before he passes on. The doctors performed a test to see if there is any brain activity;we hope to know the results today. I'll keep everyone posted.

It's working out

It looks like that I will be able to release a CD within the next 4-6 weeks. I'm planning to do two. I'm planning a Christmas CD. I know everyone has one and it can become very boring to do similar tunes as everyone else. I love the holiday season(Yes, I still call it Christmas) and the music associated with the season.

I have about 80% of the tracks recorded for the new age CD. I have to finish everything within the next 2-3 weeks. I decided to mix and master everything myself. Usually this is not normal, but my budget will only allow so much. Hopefully, I can make enough so that when I do the second CD, I will be able to farm out some of the work.

I'm sitting in Dunkin Donuts after a long day at a workshop. I guess the administration at my school thinks highly of me because the workshop I went to was on developing leaders in the school. I never saw myself as a leader or a facilitator. I suppose the great leaders and thinkers in human history never thought of themselves as leaders or facilitators; they saw a need and decided to fill that need.

On the gig front, more and more gigs keep coming my way. It is getting back to the point where when I was in college; there were times in college where I wa playing 3-4 nights a week. I have to be careful and not lose touch of what is going on at the home front.

I love playing, but I don't think that I want to spend every night playing in some club. During those times I was playing a lot of gigs, the gigs felt like "work". It wasn't fun or enjoyable. This is probably one of the reasons why I ended up taking a hiatus for almost 2 years. I have to find a balance between school, work and family will come and go; my wife will not. When I got married, I made a commitment to make her the number 2 in my life (I fight to make God #1; Not perfect, but I try). It is good that I'm making money, but I can't do that and sacrifice my marriage. I've seen too many people put their careers and professions over their family. I definitely do not want to become one of these people.

Sorry for the long post. Later

Under construction

I am in the process of redesigning a website and producing a CD. I realize now that it is a lot of work. On top of all of this, I teach, go to school, gig and try to be the best husband I can be. My dad asked me today if I still play out from time to time. At first I thought "Am I supposed to stop just because I teach at a public school?" Then I realized that he was just asking and I was being paranoid.

I don't know why, but in some areas it is considered "taboo" if you are a music teacher in a school to be performing on a regular basis. I understand that my job takes time after work, but what I do with my time after work is my business. If I want to go home and watch Dr. Phil, that's fine. If I want to go and work on other music, that's great. the point is that it is still my life. The school where I teach DOES NOT own me.

It's late and I benn out late every night this week. Good night.

Long time no "See"

It has been a while since I've blogged. I'm currently taking my 3rd class in the DMA program at Boston University. It is very, very difficult to keep up with the schedule. So far, my GPA is about 3.4 ( I got an A in one class and B- in another) What is exciting about the program is that it is a very rigorous and demanding, one to challenge the intellect of any musician/teacher. As a result, I decided to cut back on the amout of private students I see.

On the Recording side, I have finished the material for a CD. The first CD I p[lan to release is in the genre of New Age mixed with different styles(Just about anything can end up in "New Age"). Hopefully, I can release the CD at the end of November. Until Next time....
