Stuff and decisions

I had a gig with Wild Rice for this Thursday Dec. 3rd...We found out yesterday that the gig was canceled. Now I don't have anything until next Thursday. I don't mind the break to spend time with my family. Some of the best times I've had recently has been with my wife and kids. It is good to be loved and appreciated by your family. I don't know what I will do without them. I just want to be the best husband and father I can be.

I have been working on a couple of ideas for albums (CD'S...I'm still in the 80s). One is a solo saxophone concept with some electronic background. I have been experimenting with some ambient sounds while the sax is playing melodies..nothing complex or technically challenging. I'm trying to create different sounds. When I have some material that I feel comfortable releasing, I will let everyone hear.

I am leaning towards NOT pursuing another degree. I have been in a Masters Program at Full Sail University (Education Technology). The last few months have be challenging to get work done and I've been behind on my thesis. I have some professional development work to do for my job. I have to have that completed by the end of the semester. Here are some other reasons why I'm thinking I'm done with school.

A. I can make more money doing what I'm doing now (Teaching, private students, gigs, writing music, DJ). I just need to do more of it and develop some business ideas.

B. I'm already tenured (not that it means much these days).

c. To do what I want to do (music), I will have to stop working for at least a year, maybe more (unless I decide to continue with a distance learning program)

D. More time away from the family

E. I may have to take the GRE again

F. I make just as much as most college music professors (teaching+private students+gigs+ any other job I do)..not all but most. This isn't to brag because EVERYONE knows that teachers don't get paid what they are worth!!!!

G. There are more band/orchestra/general music jobs than Professor of Saxophone jobs, or music technology/composition.

I can go on, but I won't. ALL of this will change IF I apply and I get some sort of assistance where I don't have to deal with student loans. We'll see as time goes...
