Happy New year to everyone!!! This is my 1st post of 2010. There are lots of exciting things going on in the life of Jason Passmore. Here we go:
1. I'm starting to do some sub work in Wild Rice, a Latin Jazz group here in Atlanta. Looks like things are going well and I may be the sub guy. When One horn can't make the gig, I've been getting the call. More work for me.
2. I will be doing some adjunct/part-time teaching at Georgia Perimeter College. I will be teaching a Music appreciation course and a Jazz History course. The college is a two-year school and the music department is small, but it seems as though everyone really works together. I won't be blogging much about my teaching, except to tell of student performances at Georgia Perimeter.
3. It looks like I will be returning to full sail university in March. I will be finished by May. I am still not 100% sure what I will do next. My wife tells me that if I just want to teach, go fro the degree. I have many other interests I want to pursue. I just don't want to be 50 when I am finishing my PH.D. If I do it, I want to be done by 40-42. I know I want to teach jazz and saxophone and I want all options available to me.
4. I am working on a few CDs: Jazz CD, solo sax CD, and a electronic music CD. All will be released by the end of this year. The interesting thing is that I plan on doing all of the recording for the solo sax and electronic CD. My colleague and friend, pianist Daniel Padron will record and play on the Jazz CD. I hope to start recording in March.
5. Since I want to play more jazz, I need to network more in the scene. There are some incredible musicians here in Atlanta and I want to get to know them and vice-versa. I will try to make to more of the jam sessions (as many as my wife and kids will allow).
That's about it...Got to get back to it.Later..
